4 Good Horse Blogs
by Barbara Ellin Fox
I’ve been looking for some good horse blogs to follow and have been surprised at how many of the posts are months to a year old. Some even appear to be abandoned. Even so, there is great information to be found in old posts. I thought I’d share with you 4 good horse blogs that I’ve discovered.
Go barefoot. I love to let my horses go barefoot whenever I can. I think it’s a good day anytime you don’t have to drive a nail into a hoof so The Barefoot Hoof Care blog http://barefoothoofcare.wordpress.com/ is right up my alley. The last post on this blog is from June ’09but there are some very informative posts about club foot, making the transition from shod to barefoot, anatomy, ringbone, trimming and the list goes on. This site is well worth your time and I hope that Christina will keep adding more information. We sure need the help.
I adore Girls Horse Club blog http://www.girlshorseclub.com/blog/ . This site has an endless supply of things that will interest horse crazy girls from contests to crafts, music, gear, poetry…. You have to check this blog out… and they welcome comments. And I’m glad they welcome the “not so young girls, too” because inside I will always be a horse crazy girl.

I almost didn’t look at Behind the Bit blog. After all the name alone told me it was a dressage blog. I haven’t found too many dressage blogs that I want to spend time on because, let’s face it, I have way too many dressage books in my library. I want to enjoy my time on line. Well I have to say that Stacey Kimmel -Smith is a woman after my own heart. Apparently she loves some of the hysterics on Youtube, has strong opinions, has a sense of humor and has good information in her blogs to boot. Stacey made me laugh plus she made me think…is there really a barn chore that I hate? Check it out! Behind the Bit goes on my list of good blogs. . http://www.behindthebitblog.com/
I first learned about Dakota Lee when I ran into the video at the beginning of this post, on YouTube – Horse Talk Episode 1. I was impressed by her confidence and great personality as she taught us about horse manure, of all things! I thought, here’s a girl with something special so I followed the trail to her blog, Horse Talk with Dakota http://www.horsetalkwithdakota.com/ . Her’s is a video blog with lots of good information and some very interesting videos. And I was surprised to find that Dakota had written a horse book. She started the book in 4th grade, finished the story in two years and had it published in 2009. Of course I sent for a copy! Dakota is a busy girl with school, book signings and her video blog. And she even offers advice to other prospective authors. I highly recommend a visit to Horse Talk with Dakota whether you’re a kid or a kid at heart.
I find the bad blogs or the forgotten blogs to be really frustrating, but I’ll keep looking for the good ones, and I’ll let you know what I find.
By the way those kids a Hangar Haven Farm Camp http://www.hhfridingcamps.com/camps.html are sure good at letting you know what they think about barn chores!!!
